Frequently Asked Questions

Q Why should we develop our grounds?
A Pupils spend at least 1/3 of their school day in the grounds. What are they doing during this time? The grounds are the biggest classroom in the school, here are some reasons to develop it -

1. Increased ownership and sense of responsibility.
2. Improved appearance and popularity of the school / setting.
3. A reduction in accidents, bullying and vandalism.
4. Enhanced opportunities for play & social interaction.
5. Raised achievement through additional teaching resources

Q Do you install equipment?
A
Sorry, no. But we do have a large resource library of suppliers to recommend to you based on our experience.

Q Do you have funding to offer us?
A
Sadly, no. But we can signpost you to appropriate pots of funding and provide advice with respect to fundraising.

Q Some suppliers have a design service. Why should we come to you rather than let them do the whole job?
A
We don't have a range of products to promote, so we will tailor your design to your needs, not our catalogue! Where possible, we will design a scheme that makes use of free resources. Also, take a look at our Principles section.

Q Does your consultation and design service cost anything?
A Most schools access our time through an Advisory Service Contract (Durham schools through EDS contract), hence we take 'hours' not 'cash' from your school budget. Some Early Years establishments in Co. Durham can access fully funded contracts through the E.Y.D.C.P.

Q What happens after you've finished the consultation and produced our design?
A
After we have handed over your 'Vision Plan' and Report, we are available to help you with information, advice and further services.

Q How long will it take to complete a school grounds development project?
A
Due to the tremendous popularity of our service, we are operating at about six months from start of consultation to final handover. The realisation of the design after that will depend on yourselves, the size of the project and resources available.
