The Sustainable Schools framework is beeing supported in the North East with a regional launch event being organised by GONE in conjunction with NESPSS on 11th July. Key figures from local authorities, regional agencies and companies have been invited. Outcomes from the event will be posted on this site.

The DfES launched their Sustainable Schools website on 9th June in Westminster. This site will develop over the coming months. To view it click here.

The Sustainable Schools Framework consultation has been launched today on the DfES website. Click here to go to the site and feedback your comments. I would encourage everyone to respond particularly individual schools, the greater the response the greater the signal it sends to DfES and Defra about how important this area of work is.

The inaugural UK National Commission UNESCO Conference is taking place at Nottingham University on Saturday 17th June. It will have a workshop on ESD and its free to attend. For more information visit www.unesco.org.uk

The Teesside One World Centre in Middlesbrough has secured funding to appoint an officer to work on a schools project called Refugee Action Project Teesside which will work across the 5 Tees Valley Boroughs. Click here to view the advert and job description.

In the north east we are working with WWF Learning to develop an action research project on how we can support schools to develop whole school changeto become sustainble schools. The first meeting to discuss ideas and the way ahead is at The EWE Centre on 24th May 06 (11-4pm, lunch included). If you'd like to attend please e-mail n.lamb100@durhamlea.org.uk. This is an initial meeting there's no pressure to 'sign up'

The Department for Education and Skills has published its second Sustainable Development Action Plan (SDAP). This action plan builds on the achievements and lessons learnt from the first SDAP (September 2003) and addresses key actions to be taken during the next two years (2006-07 and 2007-08) - the most important next steps.
