What's New?

27th February 2006

The Times Educational Supplement had an excellent article about Sustainble Development in Schools published on 20th January 2006. Click here to read a copy.

Click here to read the Defra/DfES review of funding for ESD projects in England.

8th February 2006

The Government is looking for a young person (aged 10-18) to represent the North East as a Climate Change Champion. The competition closes on 31st March. For more information click here.

Alternatively click here to link to the new North East energy website called www.n-ergise.net designed for schools, teachers and students.

8th February 2006

Click here to see a sneak preview of a new ESD document which will be sent to all schools in the North East by NECLEA (North East Consortia of LEA's) in the next two weeks. If any of this interests you or you have a regional programme which could be highlighted please get in touch.

1st February 2006

The DfES have extended the date for e-consultation on the development of the Education Outside the Classroom Manifesto. Click here to visit the consultation site. If you have any involvement or interest in promoting pupils learning in different environments I would recommend that you respond. The greater the response, the better the chance that Government may take notice and act accordingly.

24th January 2006

An intensive week of planting has just taken place in the grounds. Around 1000 fast growing, 'bio-mass' withies have been utilised as living fences and screen planting. We have also planted our own coppice which will be an educational resource as well as the source of coppiced materials for future projects. 80 shrubs and four standard trees which were donated, also found there way into the scheme.

20th January 2006

Northern Kites is a 5 year project to return Red Kite birds of prey to north-east England. If you'd like your school to adopt a kite then click here to find out how and why.

16th January 2006

The DfES and Defra have undertaken a funding review to look at how they fund ESD projects. The report is available to download from here. Interestingly one of the recommendations is to develop the role of regional partnership delivery. The region is well placed with the emerging North East Strategic Partnership for Sustainable Schools. We have responded to Government along with a number of other regions and hope to be invited to discussions about future delivery and direction shortly.

16th January 2006

Eco-Schools are running a competetion for one school in the UK to win a wind turbine worth £20,000. The odds of winning will obviously be fairly low but if wind power is something you are exploring it may be worth applying for. Click here for more information.

13th January 2006

If you haven't looked already, the School Grounds Project website has been completely revamped, click on the leaf logo to see what Joanne, Sara and Phil are up to.
